ECOCERT and COSMOS: a guide for cosmetic brands

Ecocert and COSMOS have different roles

Ecocert is a certification body. COSMOS is a standard for natural and organic cosmetics evaluated by authorised bodies. Specify the standard, intended category and requested scope when planning the project.

NATURAL, ORGANIC and raw materials

COSMOS NATURAL and ORGANIC have their own criteria; ORGANIC includes organic-content requirements. Approved or certified raw materials help supplier selection but do not automatically certify a complete formula or finished product.

What development teams assess

Review ingredient composition, documentation, origin and processing; formula and manufacturing parameters; packaging; and labelling linked to certification. Product names alone do not establish compliance.
