How to choose a third-party cosmetics manufacturer in Spain

Choosing a manufacturer is one of the decisions that most impacts the quality, lead time, and growth capacity of a cosmetic brand. The right supplier doesn't just produce: they help convert concept into specifications, anticipate risks, and maintain control as volume increases.

1. Define the project before comparing laboratories

Prepare a brief with category, consumer, market, channel, target price, claims, formula type, packaging, initial volume, and forecast. The clearer the starting point, the more comparable the proposals will be. A budget without technical scope may seem attractive and then change.

2. Check their R&D capabilities

Ask who formulates, how prototypes are documented, how many revisions the project includes, and what happens if a raw material becomes unavailable. A cosmetic development laboratory should explain technical decisions and translate brand positioning into a manufacturable formula.

3. Evaluate quality and good practices

ISO 22716 provides good practice guidelines for the production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetics. In addition to the certificate, it's important to know how specifications, traceability, deviations, cleaning, and batch release are managed. Ask them to explain the system with examples applicable to your product.

4. Ask about industrial scaling

An excellent sample does not guarantee an excellent industrial batch. The manufacturer must plan for scale transfer: order of addition, temperatures, agitation, times, and control points. They must also evaluate the relationship between the formula, equipment, and packaging.

5. Review real flexibility

Minimum quantities, formats, and lead times vary according to formula, components, and filling line. Seek a concrete answer for your specific case. Useful flexibility is not about accepting any condition, but about proposing a viable setup and explaining its limits.

6. Value communication

A cosmetic project brings together marketing, purchasing, design, regulation, laboratory, and factory. It requires responsible parties, milestones, deliverables, and recorded decisions. Clear communication reduces rework and protects the launch date.

7. Look beyond the first batch

Ask how replenishments, forecasts, packaging changes, reformulations, and new markets will be managed. A good industrial partner should support growth without losing consistency.

At OKT GLOBAL, we integrate R&D, third-party cosmetic manufacturing, private label, conditioning, and documentary support to ensure that laboratory decisions also work in production.
